I was watching hipsters at the Drake Hotel dance to this old song, thinking they were kinda corny, and a few days later, the beat just came to me, and the vocals matched. Not the most exciting story but I played it last week at Nyood and people were jamming to it (1 of my fav. things about DJing is making something on your laptop and watching people dance to it that same night).

the stylus awards.

My best of kanye west mixtape was nominated for best mixtape at the Stylus Awards, which took place today. My friends encouraged me to submit the tape. Even though I hate competing and getting fronted on by the judges, I actually had a very fun night laughing to jokes by the host, Trixx. A couple of really serious DJs like Dirty Dale, Lucie Tic, Manzone + Strong didn’t get awards that I think they might have deserved, but that’s sometimes how it goes. Here’s my brief review.

1. They gave away the mixtape award sunday night at a different party, I didn’t know about this.
2. I lost the award to P-Plus. Congrats P.
3. Trixx is the best host! Watch out for this guy, he has something funny to say about any random thing.
4. Russell Peters was clowning so hard on a DJ who he presented an award to! Brilliant Comedy. Here’s how it went:

Russell Peters presents best remix award to DJ Captain Kirk from 4Korners: (his remix plays while Kirk walks to podium).
Russell: "that’s ur rmx? I hear that trash in woodbridge!". (people laugh)
Kirk: "can I talk now?" (with a slight lisp)
Russell: Sure go ahead (imitating lisp, crowd laughs).
Kirk: Thank you (thanks a few people)…Way back, I grew up carrying record crates…. [Russell interrupts: "bullshit!!"].
